02/01/2009 Lorient Achieves ISO 14001
Lorient is celebrating yet another landmark achievement, having successfully obtained ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management. Awarded on 12th December 2008, the accreditation covers Lorient’s main manufacturing operation, Endeavour House at Newton Abbot in Devon. Lorient is the first seal manufacturer to have achieved this important award.
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management, and in achieving the standard Lorient has demonstrated its commitment to responsible environmental behaviour, including prevention of pollution, control and reduction of waste, and ongoing monitoring and improvement of its environmental performance.
Achieving ISO 14001 is just one part of Lorient’s ongoing commitment to operate in a sustainable way – for example, for many months the company has actively worked with key customers, finding new methods of working in order to significantly reduce the amount of packaging used in the transportation of goods. Many more initiatives are planned for 2009, to reduce materials and energy usage as well as waste.
Lorient’s products can also make an important contribution to sustainability within a building’s construction: Lorient’s acoustic, smoke and fire seals can additionally provide thermal containment benefits, aiding efficient energy management in a building. The products are also extensively tested for durability – to ten times the industry standard - reducing the need to replace the products during the lifespan of the building, thus reducing waste.
The timing of the ISO 14001 award is particularly opportune, as the company celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2009.
