Lorient is well known for offering authoritative, CPD-accredited seminars, and has given many hundreds of presentations throughout the UK over the last ten years. Now, in response to changing regulations, both of Lorient’s seminars have been updated and enhanced to offer even more relevant information, as well as practical solutions.
Lorient offers two CPD seminars, each accredited by the Construction CPD Service and qualifying for one hour’s CPD. The first, “Performance Door Design: The Basics of Sound Reduction” covers the important issue of acoustic containment, highlighted by changes in regulations over the last few years, including Approved Document E to the Building Regulations (England & Wales). Effective acoustic containment helps to improve the quality of the built environment, preserving privacy as well as excluding unwanted noise. The seminar considers the nature of sound; regulatory requirements; British Standards that relate to acoustic performance; and effective design of door assemblies for acoustic performance, including door construction and the influence of sealing systems.
The second seminar is entitled “The Role and Performance of Fire & Smoke Resisting Door Assemblies.” Fire doors play a vital role in the protection of a building and its occupants, as noted in Approved Document B , and correct specification is essential to ensure performance in the case of a fire. Lorient’s seminar includes hard facts concerning deaths, injuries and property damage caused by fire and smoke; regulatory requirements for fire and smoke-resisting door assemblies; technical information on the nature and behaviour of smoke; practical guidance on effective design of door assemblies for smoke containment, including the threshold gap; and recommendations for overcoming differing design requirements for fire, smoke and acoustic containment and accessibility.
Both CPD seminars are impartially presented by Sarah Lewis, Lorient's newly-appointed Specifications Manager . Sarah, a Registered Architectural Ironmonger, brings a wealth of knowledge from the door hardware industry, as well as several years’ experience working with Lorient’s door manufacturer and joinery customers in a Business Development role.
Each seminar includes ample opportunity for questions and discussion, and also to examine products first-hand. Comprehensive notes are provided and attendance certificates awarded. If you are interested in booking either seminar, please contact the Lorient Marketing department or e-mail cpd@lorientuk.com.
