Building Bulletin 93: Acoustic Design of Schools (BB 93)

Building Bulletin 93 provides a framework for the acoustic design of schools. Section 8 of Approved Document E also recognises Building Bulletin 93 as an Approved Document, and the normal way of satisfying Requirement E4.

Building Bulletin 93 also emphasises the importance of good perimeter and threshold sealing in achieving the required acoustic performance of the door assembly.

As well as covering floors, walls and ceilings, Building Bulletin 93 also gives specific acoustic performance ratings required for doors in schools (a minimum of 30dB Rw), and states a higher level for music rooms (35dB Rw).
